Kastoria
Kastoria is situated at the western end of Western Macedonia 190 km from Thessaloniki and 515 km from Athens. The creation of the Egnatia Highway has shorten by far the time distances and allowed quick access to the city from both Thessaloniki and from Igoumenitsa and Ioannina. The town lies between two mountains, Grammos and Vitsi, at an altitude of 620 meters. It is built on a peninsula west of the lake “Orestidaâ€, also known as “Lake of Kastoriaâ€. The lake gives the city a unique atmosphere during all seasons even during the winter when the water usually becomes ice.
